Committees are Where the Work Gets Done

While the Board of Directors make major decisions about the overall direction and function of the Chautauqua Leadership Network, it is at the committee level that the specific implementation of those decisions take place. The committees are comprised of members who have interest and experience in the subject of the committee they serve on. There is also at least one board director on each committee.

Program Development

Purpose:  Provide a world class community leadership development and asset discovery program.

Responsibilities

• Develop the committee’s annual operational plan, that includes objectives and action steps with a budget for BOD approval.
• Establish leadership learning outcomes for the CLN training program.
• Design and implement the leadership training.
• Annually assess the leadership training against the leadership outcomes.
• Conduct a signature CLN event.

 

Network Development

Purpose:  Grow an active and involved CLN network.

Responsibilities

• Develop the committee’s annual operational plan, that includes objectives and action steps with a budget for BOD approval.
• Engage in mission-focused, value-added opportunities that will expand the number of paid and active members.
• Maintain and coordinate a system to develop, retain, and track membership.
• Actively recruit orientation class members to become engaged network members.
• Increase member participation in CLN committees and other opportunities.
• Maintain and coordinate internal communication channels for the membership.

Branding and Marketing

Purpose:  Promote and market a CLN brand that is recognizable throughout WNY.

Responsibilities

• Develop the committee’s annual operational plan, that includes objectives and action steps with a budget for BOD approval.
• Build and sustain the CLN brand and communicate a consistent message through all channels and platforms
• Maintain the CLN website, social media presence, and marketing materials.
• Engage in outreach efforts to individuals, organizations, corporations, and communities.
• Update and execute the strategic marketing plan.

Strategic Recruitment

Co-Chair: Robert Dahlin, class of 2018 and Lindsey Rensel, class of 2018  Members: Stephanie Brown, class of 2015, Corrine Case, class of 2016, Jennifer Desmond, class of 2015, Troy Eklum, class of 2015, Justin Hanft, class of 2013, Matt Mazgaj, class of 2017, Marcia Restivo. class of 2017

Purpose:  Recruit new members to the organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop the committee’s annual operational plan, that includes objectives and action steps with a budget for BOD approval
• Recruit and select the orientation class participants
• Implement a targeted strategic recruitment plan that identifies key existing and emerging leaders
• Continue CLN’s relationships with private, public, and social sectors to embed the orientation year as part of their leadership development experience
• Employ a scholarship policy that supports only those who demonstrate need and require financial assistance
• Build a diverse CLN membership

Organizational Effectiveness

Purpose:  Maintain a structure and system that actively engages its members in leading the organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop an annual organizational assessment, including BOD and committees that provides recommendations for approval and action at the annual meeting.
• Assess and maintain a committee structure that supports the themes of the strategic plan.
• Update responsibilities for BOD members and committee chairs as needed.
• Coordinate an orientation for new BOD members and committee chairs.
• Design and conduct an annual retreat for BOD members and committee chairs to communicate the strategic goals
• Review and update bylaws as appropriate.
• Assemble the annual report and update the strategic plan.

Financial Sustainability

Purpose:  Ensure financial stability of the Chautauqua Leadership Network organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop the committee’s annual operational plan, that includes objectives and action steps with a budget for BOD approval.
• Ensure that each orientation year is fully funded prior to the start of the year.
• Maintain unrestricted funds, excluding tuition paid by the upcoming class, to support operations for one year.
• Maintain a system to develop, retain, and track sponsorships and grants.
• Conduct fundraising to support the organization including the annual leader of the year program.
