DESCRIPTION:Location: Roger Tory Peterson Institute \nIn this session\, participants will learn the core concepts of design thinking and will have the opportunity to apply those concepts immediately to their own lives. This session will challenge participants to expand their creative thinking and problem solving abilities\, invite them to reflect deeply on their own lives and careers\, and emerge with distinct tools to face some of the most difficult decisions a person can face. As a result of this session\, participants can expect to: \n\nArticulate and apply the elements of design thinking to real-world problems\nCreate an inventory of their own NACE competencies and strengths\nUnderstand the importance of a career self-concept\, and see their own RIASEC codes\nDefine and apply personal values to life and career decisions\n\n  \n \nAnnie’s bio: Annie is a Career Services specialist with over 15 years of experience in secondary and higher education. Students should come prepared to take a stance on challenging issues. By comprehending the consequences of decisions\, refining critical thinking skills\, and improving decision-making abilities\, students will gain valuable insights into the demands organizations often place upon leaders. \nCore Competencies: Ethics/Integrity and Leading Change \n  \n \nPresented by Craig Garaas-Johnson \nCraig Garaas-Johnson\, CLN ’20\, is a versatile professional with a professional career spanning nearly 20 years. He holds an MFA in poetry and pursued doctoral work in educational research focused on advanced statistical analysis of at-risk student populations. His love of language and analysis has led him to wear many hats including as an English professor\, biofuels journalist\, a business development professional for a utility\, and a marketer and communicator at both the University of North Dakota and University at Buffalo. Throughout his career\, he has always sought new opportunities to collaborate within and outside his field. Success is defined as getting resources to the people around him who will make a positive impact on the world. Craig earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University Moorhead\, and a BA in Composition from SUNY Potsdam.
