Position Description:

This position is full-time,12-months with college-wide responsibility. The Director of Marketing and Communications plays a significant role in shaping the image of the entire college and supporting the college brand by planning, directing, and implementing a coordinated marketing and communications strategy in support of the college’s mission, vision, and established priorities. The Director of Marketing and Communications is required to demonstrate strong leadership with a proactive approach in resolving problems and issues.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic planning and project management of a variety of marketing and communications functions, to support the goals of the college outlined in the college’s strategic plan.
  • Work with leadership to establish, guide, and enforce the JCC brand and voice of the college and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide leadership, engagement, and management to a team of marketing and communication professionals covering public relations, marketing, web, social media, graphic design, and videography.
  • Oversee the execution of the marketing plans through strong visual communications, content marketing, web development, social media, advertising, and public relations.
  • Manage the college’s website and prioritize the site as a recruitment and marketing resource.
  • Engage with the Deans and other academic leaders to effectively build recognition and visibility for academic programs and identify priority programs for enrollment campaigns.
  • Evaluate, enhance, and improve the public opinion of the organization through various data-collection formats including surveys, polls, focus groups, and media listening.
  • Research and understand key challenges, customer behavior, target audiences, competitive activity, and environmental factors that impact programs within the college.
  • Build relationships and manage contacts with media, advertising agencies, vendors, and creative freelancers.
  • Oversee budget management for marketing/advertising including development, oversight, and adjustment of initiatives to ensure effective fiscal responsibility.
  • Support the Vice President of Student Affairs in coordinating emergency communications for emergency response planning.
  • Develop and execute strategic marketing campaigns that include traditional and digital media, supporting communication plans, and communicate directly with the Admissions Customer Relationship Management System (CRM).
  • Develop and institute appropriate accountability metrics for marketing activities and campaigns, using them to assess against defined goals and develop specific steps to incorporate those goals to achieve optimal return on investment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, or related area plus four (4) years of marketing and/or communications experience. Creative approach to reaching target markets. In-depth understanding of web design including mobile applications, ADA compliance, and accessibility in digital marketing.

Budget management experience. Must possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal/human relations, commitment to providing excellent customer service. Demonstrated organizational skills. Professional experience in graphic design and advertising including purchasing printing, advertising, and related services. Ability to manage multiple priorities and to work as a team member as well as independently. Attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred: Master’s degree. Experience in educational environment.

Additional Information:

Salary: $63,626 – $78,302. Excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, and NYS retirement.
