SUMMARY:Class of 2023 - Case Studies In Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Leaders make decisions and\, fair or not\, they are often most remembered for the bad ones. During this session\, students will analyze and discuss complex\, real-world scenarios that lack straightforward answers\, allowing them to explore the enduring impact of leadership decisions. The case studies examined will cover diverse ethical issues\, including artificial intelligence\, immigration\, and team mascots\, offering valuable insights into the complexities of leadership. Students should come prepared to take a stance on challenging issues. By comprehending the consequences of decisions\, refining critical thinking skills\, and improving decision-making abilities\, students will gain valuable insights into the demands organizations often place upon leaders. \nCore Competencies: Ethics/Integrity and Leading Change \n  \n \nPresented by Craig Garaas-Johnson \nCraig Garaas-Johnson\, CLN ’20\, is a versatile professional with a professional career spanning nearly 20 years. He holds an MFA in poetry and pursued doctoral work in educational research focused on advanced statistical analysis of at-risk student populations. His love of language and analysis has led him to wear many hats including as an English professor\, biofuels journalist\, a business development professional for a utility\, and a marketer and communicator at both the University of North Dakota and University at Buffalo. Throughout his career\, he has always sought new opportunities to collaborate within and outside his field. Success is defined as getting resources to the people around him who will make a positive impact on the world. Craig earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University Moorhead\, and a BA in Composition from SUNY Potsdam.

SUMMARY:Class of 2023 - Creative Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Creativity is widely regarded as one of the most essential\, useful\, and sought-after skills for leaders and for employees\, in general. Creative leadership involves being open to new ideas\, being flexible in thought and action\, taking risks\, finding playfulness in innovation\, and working through uncertainty while moving forward with confidence. This session will focus on learning ways to build creative mindsets\, skill sets\, and tool sets through an assessment model\, individual exercises\, and group activities. A bonus benefit will be having fun and working together in a climate of support\, celebration\, and connection! \n \nFascilitated by Jane Fischer \nJane is a Creative Change Facilitator\, offering training\, facilitation\, and coaching for personal and organizational development. Her passion is to help individuals\, teams\, and organizations generate brighter ideas\, embrace creative and collaborative solutions\, and to do so through positive mindsets. \nJane has over 25 years of experience in organizing and delivering educational and professional development workshops\, training curriculum\, process facilitation\, and group experience activities. Much of this experience covers her two decades in health education leadership\, with 15 of these years as a peer health education administrator and trainer at the college level. \nJane holds a Master of Arts in Health Arts and Sciences from Goddard College\, and a Graduate Certificate of Advanced Study in Creativity and Change Leadership from the International Center for Studies in Creativity at SUNY Buffalo State. She also serves as a Creativity Trainer for the Creative Education Foundation. \nJane also builds her approach around the principles and practices of improvisation. She has been a professional improv comedy performer for over 20 years\, currently with ComedySportz Buffalo. She was a co-founder and performer with The Unexpected Guests Improv Comedy Group in Jamestown from 2002-2017. She has lived in Chautauqua County for most of her life\, and currently resides in Fredonia with her husband and a very spoiled cat.
